What Is Low Self Esteem?

At the heart of self-esteem lays your own idea or opinion of the kind of person you are. Usually underlying low self-esteem are negative beliefs which are taken to be facts or truths about who you are and as such can lead to a negative impact on you as a person and on your life.

Your therapist will work with you to understand more about how low self-esteem has developed, and how your thinking habits and behaviours may keep low self-esteem going in the present day.

You will earn new skills to evaluate your negative self-talk and challenge unhelpful beliefs about yourself. You will be asked to keep a record of your self-talk and learn new ways to challenge them, helping you to move towards a place of self-knowledge, self-acceptance, and create a more balanced and healthy view of yourself.

 

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

Low self esteem can be part of current difficult and stressful life situations. If you’re experiencing depression, low self esteem can be a by product of your depressed mood. Having a negative view of oneself is a symptom of depression. As such treatment will usually follow recommendations treatment of depression lasting between 8 – 12 sessions.
