Jane McClaren

BABCP Accredited CBT Psychotherapist | EMDR Practitioner | Clinical SupervisorSpecialist in Trauma, PTSD & Complex Trauma Recovery £125 per session
Jane McClaren is a BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, EMDR Practitioner, and Director of Sheffield CBT Practice, with over 15 years of clinical experience.
She specialises in working with adults experiencing the impact of trauma, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and difficulties with self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. Jane offers a compassionate, collaborative approach, helping clients make sense of their experiences and move forward with greater confidence and clarity.
Jane began her career in the NHS, working within a specialist service for OCD, PTSD, and anxiety disorders. She later worked at the University of Sheffield Counselling Service, supporting students with a range of mental health difficulties, including anxiety, depression, and academic stress.
Alongside her private practice, Jane is the Clinical Manager of a Sheffield-based charity providing specialist therapy to women who have experienced domestic and sexual abuse, including coercive control, sexual violence and other traumatic experiences. In this role, she leads a team of therapists and contributes to the development of trauma-informed services.
Jane has a strong clinical interest in trauma-focused approaches and integrates evidence-based CBT and EMDR to support recovery from complex and longstanding difficulties. Where clinically appropriate, extended 90-minute EMDR sessions are available (£170). These sessions allow additional time for preparation, trauma processing, and grounding, supporting deeper therapeutic work within a single session.
In addition to her clinical work, Jane is an experienced trainer and clinical supervisor. She delivers professional training on trauma-informed practice and the psychological impact of abuse, and provides supervision to therapists working with complex presentations.
Jane’s work is grounded in a trauma-informed, formulation-led approach. Therapy is tailored to each individual, with a focus on understanding the meaning behind difficulties rather than simply managing symptoms.
She aims to create a space where clients feel safe, understood, and able to work at their own pace — particularly when working with sensitive or complex experiences
